In his 2021 book, “Rationality: What It Is, Why It Seems Scarce, Why It Matters,” Steven Pinker–Harvard professor and prominent public intellectual–presents an account of rationality, our ability to make reasonable judgments and decisions. Pinker explains why rationality is important and why it often seems lacking in our personal, professional, and public lives. Most of the book, the middle seven chapters, explicates “the most widely applicable normative tools of reason,” relatively formal methods that Pinker regards as the keys to rational thought. “Rationality” has 340 pages of text and can be purchase, in hardcover, from Amazon for $16.
So, if your interested in learning Pinker’s “tools of reason” and/or in discussing his view of rationality, get yourself a copy and join us in this online THINK! Book Club event. Truth be told, you’re welcome to join us even if you haven’t read the book, but would like to participate or just listen in on a discussion of these topics.
