In addition to our usual online event, this month’s Think! Book Club will include a discussion of Andrew Seidel’s 2022 book, “American Crusade,” as part of the Secular Saturday get-together. Andrew spoke to us about his book in early May during a book-signing event and the next morning during our Day of Reason celebration at the state capital.
Subtitled “How the Supreme Court is Weaponizing Religious Freedom,” Seidel’s book uses in-depth discussions of legal cases decided within the past half century to support his claim that the Supreme Court has adopted a distorted view of religious freedom that strongly privileges Christianity.
The book discussion will be from 3:00—4:30. Afterwards, join other Secular Saturday session attendees in the gallery for refreshments and socializing.
Our discussion will examine these legal developments as well as reaching out to consider the current state of the Supreme Court and the threat posed by Christian Nationalism. If these matters are of interest to you, feel free to join us even if you have not had time to read the book. “American Crusade” has 258 pages of text and is available at Amazon for $23.
This event is sponsored by HumanistsMN. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining to help us cover our costs and build the humanist movement. Not ready to join? Donations are gratefully accepted. Donate or join here.
