Come explore the heart of humanism! This final introductory session to humanism will focus on the ethical imperative of humanism and disentangle ethics from religion. We will explore the evolutionary origins of moral instincts and the philosophical moral theories that have influenced the humanist outlook from around the globe. In addition, a contemporary secular process for ethical deliberation will be put forward.

The presentation and discussion will be from 3:00—4:30. Afterwards, join other Secular Saturday attendees in the gallery for refreshments and socializing.

While designed as a series, each session is independent of the others and folks are welcome to attend as they are able. The three sessions together provide a comprehensive introduction to humanism for “newbies” but will also benefit those who want to explore humanism more deeply.

The first session (August 27) was an overview of the naturalist worldview which lays the foundation for modern day humanism. The second session (September 3) focused on Meaning and Purpose.

Please join us for this overview of contemporary humanism as understood and practiced by a growing number of people affiliated with such organizations as the American Humanist Association, the American Ethical Union, and Humanists International.

This event is sponsored by HumanistsMN. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining to help us cover our costs and build the humanist movement. Not ready to join. Donations are gratefully accepted! Join or donate at humanistsmn.org.
