(Please note that this Community Gathering will take place at a different time and place than our usual monthly meetings.)
Join us to discuss the aspirations and concerns of secular students in a conversation with Kazi Ahmed Habib, president of Mavericks Alliance of Secular Students (MASS) at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Kazi was the recipient of HumanistsMN’s first Paul Heffron Scholarship for Secular Students. He will discuss his identity as an ex-Muslim atheist, the forces that influenced his journey to secularism, his goals for MASS, and his support for social justice and civil liberties such as religious freedom, free speech and LGBTQ rights.
Other members of MASS will join him and we especially welcome secular students from other campuses to join us as well.
We are meeting at the Frogtown Community Center in St. Paul because it is across the street from a billboard that HMN will erect to support the principle of separation of religion and government and reject Christian nationalism (see photo above).
We will take time during our Community Gathering to get photos of our members and friends in front of the billboard. This will help us amplify our messaging over social media.
The program will begin at 2 p.m. We will socialize over nibbles and drinks at 3:30 p.m.
Please join us for this chance to connect with younger people — and pose for a photo that will help spread an important message at the same time!
This event is sponsored by HumanistsMN. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining to help us cover our costs and build the humanist movement. Not ready to join? Donations are gratefully accepted! Join or donate at humanistsmn.org.
