Minnesota advocacy groups and legislators are beginning to take note of the perils of Christian Nationalism. This month HumanistsMN is bringing together a panel of local activists and legislators to discuss the real threats to separation of religion and government here in Minnesota. All welcome. Childcare is available upon request at editor@humanistsmn.org by Tuesday, January 17.

Panelists:

Matt Lewellyn-Otten (they/he) of OutFront Minnesota is co-leading a coalition of four organizations seeking to drive messaging against the codification of Christianity into law. OutFront Minnesota, along with Gender Justice, Jewish Community Action, and TakeAction MN, have done extensive qualitative research regarding Minnesotans’ feelings on this phenomenon and will share the results with us. Matt is the Associate Director of Religious Organizing at OutFront and works with faith-based and non-faith-based groups to think deeply about their inclusion of LGBTQIA2+ folk.

Senator John Marty is a co-founder of the newly organized Secular Government Caucus in the Minnesota Legislature. He is a longtime ally of HumanistsMN and has been championing church-state separation and freedom of and from religion for many years.

Representative Mike Freiberg is also a co-founder of the Secular Government Caucus in Minnesota. Another of our HumanistsMN allies, Rep. Freiberg has attended our National Day of Reason events for many years, encouraging other legislators to join him. He also is an avid champion of the End of Life Options Act, one of our signature advocacy initiatives.

Join us at 3 p.m. to hear our panelists and the discussion to follow. At 4:30 we’ll break for socializing over nibbles and drinks.

If you are unable to attend in person, we plan to live-stream this presentation. The link will be provided closer to the date.

This event is sponsored by HumanistsMN. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining to help us cover our costs and build the humanist movement. Not ready to join? Donations are gratefully accepted! Join or donate at humanistsmn.org.
