HumanistsMN is having a summer book drive for the Psychiatric Unit at Hennepin County Medical Center! HCMC provides care for patients from all walks of life and from all income levels. As a Level 1 Trauma Center (highest level), they also take patients whom other hospitals within the state of Minnesota often do not admit.
The head nurse of the Psychiatric Unit recommends books on the following topics for their diverse patient population:
· Mental health/mindfulness
· Geography
· Cultures (experiences, food, language, etc.)
Below are some specific suggestions. In purchasing books, please consider buying from local bookstores. And, if you order online, try using Bookshop as it supports local bookstores. Relevant gently used books will also be accepted.
Bring your book donation(s) to the HumanistsMN Summer Picnic on July 24th. Note in the comment section below which book(s) you are donating so we can avoid duplicates.
