Interested in taking action to promote and secure the separation of religion and government? Want to learn how to advocate for issues that further humanist values? Join us for this Secular Saturday workshop designed to give you the tools and strategies for contacting and encouraging your legislators and elected officials to support secular values in their policy making. We’ll use what we’ve learned to take action on two timely issues in Minnesota and start gearing up for our National Day of Reason event in early May.
The workshop session will be from 3:00—4:30, facilitated by HumanistsMN members Marcy Woodruff and Audrey Kingstrom. Afterwards, join other Secular Saturday attendees in the gallery for refreshments and socializing.
Come learn how to advocate for these two state bills that are under consideration this legislative session:
- The End of Life Options Act would allow terminally ill adults under some conditions to obtain and take medication to die peacefully.
- The Recovery Options Act would mandate secular options for folks who are required to participate in some kind of alcohol or drug recovery program.
A recent Pew poll revealed that 28% of Americans now identify as “nones” – those who claim no religious affiliation. That’s more than the percentage of Catholics and evangelical Protestants! To truly take advantage of this majority we need to let our legislators and elected officials know we are out there and paying attention. Hope to see you at this Secular Saturday program to make a game plan for doing just that.
