Thanks to the generosity of our members, HumanistsMN in November raised $10,695 to help relieve hunger during the COVID-19 crisis. This included $5,000 from an “angel” donor — an HMN member who chooses to remain anonymous. The amount was matched by the Schulze Family Foundation, resulting in a total contribution of $21,390 to the Second Harvest Heartland food bank.
Second Harvest Heartland has informed us that because of its ability to purchase food at discounted rates, these dollars will provide more than 64,000 meals for needy children, seniors, and families throughout the Twin Cities metro area.
However, this does not fully reflect our impact: Taking into account two previous rounds of fundraising, Humanists MN members have donated a total of $25,685 to Second Harvest Heartland in 2020. And because each of our efforts was strategically timed when matching donors were available, all of these dollars were doubled. The end result is that our donations helped provide more than 154,000 meals for people in need.
This is a fantastic accomplishment. Well done, HumanistsMN members!
